finish line in 2024

As I mention in my devotion, I enjoy participating in road races, triathlons, and other athletic events.  My first ever triathlon was in 2008 (see picture of me finishing the race with my children by my side).  I had been running for many years.  However, the triathlon required me to learn how to ride a road bike and swim in the ocean.  I spent six months training for the race and was fortunate to finish.  Sixteen years later, I participated and finished the same race (see 2024 picture) and my son, now 24, also participated and finished.  Both races required commitment, getting off the couch, putting in the effort, and embracing the journey.

In my spiritual race, I begin each morning with quiet time where I pray, read The Upper Room and journal.  Starting my day this way keeps me focused on what is important and gets my day off to a positive start.  I have now been journaling for 6.5 years and can honestly say it has been so healthy for me.  Journaling allows me to express my thoughts and reflect.  I often look back and review what I have written about each year on specific dates.  Reflecting on my journal highlights what I have endured and how I processed phases in my life in addition to giving me perspective and encouragement.

My challenge to my Upper Room Community is to get started on something you have been putting off. God bless each of you.
